I love this series like fat kids love cake. I can't get enough! The ending of book 2 made my heart just melt.Love, love, love! He's won back Elyssa's heart and saved his Dad from rouge vampires; but just when Justin thinks he can ride off into the sunset on a white horse... Trouble literally comes knocking on his door... along with hellhounds.Spawn relatives with their own agendas, vampires running amok, his father marked for death, and the football boys club breathing down his neck, it seemed there was no end to the kinds of monsters out to kill or capture him. It's almost enough to make him long for the days of man-boobs, Kings and Castles, and nerd status. With his 'impossible quest' list growing longer everyday, tracking down the deadliest assassin in the world may prove easier than winning the approval of Elyssa's parents. With the clock ticking and dark forces on his heels, Justin gets a crash course into the mysteries and dangers of the Overworld. But with Elyssa by his side and his growing menagerie of friends, impossible odds suddenly seem possible again.Takes off like a shot and never lets up. Dark Light of Mine left me weak in the knees and begging for book three. From the first chapter, it grabs you by the seat of your pants and thrusts you in the heart of the action while still giving small moments to "stop and smell the supernatural roses". And by the end, even my 'inner goddess' was fist pumping in the air and panting for more!"What was it about women and crying that made me feel like crap? They must have guilt hormones.""'Hop on my back if you want answers.' Did I really just say that?""I wanted to find a nice quiet spot, go to sleep, and dream about kittens.""No wonder Edward was such a crazy driver," I muttered. "Who's Edward?" Elyssa asked. "You know, from Twilight?""Ready for your first lesson, cupcake?""Can I finish my blasted story? We'll get to supernatural Kindergarten later.""Thanks." "For what?" "Using my name instead of calling me a thing."I could fill up this thing with quotes all day long! If you read and enjoyed the first book, the sequel will not disappoint! Run out and get your own copy in July....

The second installment in Corwin's Overworld Chronicles series is full of action, adventure, romance (but not the mushy kind), and humor. Picking up where book one left off, the action starts in the first chapter and doesn't let up. We follow Justin and his friends (Elyssa) as they strike out on new adventures. I love that story is written from a male point of view. That's not something you see often enough, and it is a nice change. The story itself is unique and fun. The world Corwin created in this series is incomparable. Justin, our main character, is so much fun. I absolutely love being in his head. I love that, although we watch him grow and mature throughout the story, he always stays true to who he is and what he believes. I am a huge fan of Corwin's writing. His electrifying plot twists and fast pacing are sure to keep the reader turning the pages. Warning: This series is addicting.

Synopsis:Justin won Elyssa's heart and saved his dad from rogue vampires, but just when he thinks he can ride off into the sunset on a white horse, trouble not only knocks on his door, it plows through it with hellhounds.Spawn relatives with their own agendas, vampires running amok, and his father marked for death, it seems there's no end to the kinds of monsters out to make Justin's life miserable. It's almost enough to make him long for the days of man boobs, Kings and Castles, and nerd status. With a list of impossible quests growing faster than he can keep up, tracking down the deadliest assassin in the world may prove easier than winning the approval of Elyssa's parents. The clock ticking, and dark forces on his heels, Justin gets a crash course in the mysteries and dangers of the Overworld. But with Elyssa by his side and his growing menagerie of friends, impossible odds suddenly seem possible again. My Thoughts:This one hell of an action-y sequel. The first book had plenty of action once things took off, but here? Justin was constantly on the run this time around. The book picks up right where book 1 ends and Justin, Elyssa, his dad and Katie (who has shown up for some reason and is now thrust into knowledge of the Overworld) have to jet when hellhounds show up at Casa del Case and make a nuisance of themselves. On top of that, they discover that Justin's dad has had a death mark placed on him on top of all of the other bounties he already has on his head. This only get more insane from here. Justin ends up meeting Elyssa's dad who hates him on sight because he's a spawn and her mother no longer likes him, either. This causes an estrangement between Elyssa and her parents since she's determined to to remain with Justin and help him with everything that's going insane in his life.Along the way, their crew expands from just Justin, Elyssa, David, Stacey and Shelton to include a lycan (Ryland), two more sorcerers (Smith and Meghan), Smith's vamp sister (Felicia from book 1) and an assassin who's identity you will need to read the book to find out for yourself. Plus, David's sister from House Slade makes an appearance as does a mysterious huge guy who rescues Justin and some strange girl that pops up randomly and smiles at Justin a lot. I have no clue as to who these two may be, but I really, really want to know.Anyway, we find out via Justin's aunt that there are those that believe Justin is the guy to a prophecy called forseeance 4311. Some want to protect him and some want to take him out. So, on top of getting the death mark off of his father, finding his mother and little sister, earning the approval of Elyssa's father and staying alive, Justin has to fulfill his destiny and unite the supernatural races. Go Justin! Talk about having a lot of your plate when you've only known for about two weeks that you're an incubus/sorcerer. Not to mention, he finds out who it was that placed the death mark on his dad and that the guy was manipulating him all along. That identity was a shock to me.The end of the book was insane. Maximus the vamp from book 1 is still determined to use a spawn for their blood's potency so that he can make vampires instead of vamplings and is apparently sending in vamps to high schools around the world to recruit more vamps. Why? I have no idea. But when some of these vamps encounter Justin at school and all hell breaks loose. I really enjoyed that ending. Especially that surprise appearance. I wasn't expecting that. It seems he may have a clue now, but it doesn't look like he's going to get a chance to chase it down. The only thing that threw me off with the book was that there was so much going on it was a little hard to keep up. Plus, the cast of characters has seriously expanded. It fits with the prophecy, so that does make sense. I just hope we get a little more development of these extra people. Also, the romance still seems a bit cheesy to me. I've never met any teenagers that talk to their boyfriends or girlfriends the way that Justin and Elyssa do, so that always makes me snicker a little bit. Other than that, I have no real problems with this book.

Corwin pens another laugh-out-loud page-turner for lovers of YA and Adult paranormal alike. No one wrote Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance like this when I was a kid!Description: Justin won Elyssa's heart and saved his dad from rogue vampires, but just when he thinks he can ride off into the sunset on a white horse, trouble not only knocks on his door, it plows through it with hellhounds.Spawn relatives with their own agendas, vampires running amok, and his father marked for death, it seems there's no end to the kinds of monsters out to make Justin's life miserable. But with Elyssa by his side and his growing menagerie of friends, impossible odds suddenly seem possible again. My Thoughts:I loved book 1 it built a great world and was a fast paced introduction to Justin Case and his ragtag band of friends and some not so friendly characters. Book 2 is a great continuation of Justin's story. I actually liked DLoM better than book 1 because Corwin let the characters grow you can tell that their experiences have matured them. His plot which again moves at a fast pace dives more deeply into the whys and wherefores of Justin's family and his friends become even closer as they begin to learn about each other. I truly enjoy JC's wit and humor and have to admit to be anxious to read book 3...I can't wait to find out what Justin and crew will face next. Solid 5 star rating for me and know as soon as this series is discovered by the Y/A readership it will muscle It's way to the top of the bestseller pack..

What a day and with a to-do list that won’t end! Escape from rogue vampires – check! Huh? Become the bone of contention between the previous fantasy girl of your dreams (Katie) and the current fantasy girl of your dreams (Elyssa) – check! Whoa. Follow the wishes of the mother that abandoned you or the father that insists your time together has reached an end – check! Wait, what? Escape from hell-hounds – check! Huh? How? It’s just another waking day in Justin Case’s new reality.Once again Mr. Corwin gives us a fun and action packed story from Justin’s point of view and throws in a pretty cover at no extra charge. This time around things move even more quickly as Justin adapts to his new existence; makes new friends; discovers new creatures and; works on his familial dysfunction as he works himself in and out of bizarre situations. As a reader I am enjoying discovering the fascinating and frightening creatures along with Justin and am anxious for the next installment. It is just not easy being Demon spawn.

One word fantastic.Justin, the ex-nerd turned all action hero (who only recently discovered he was not quite as human as he thought he was),bounces from one hazardous adventure to another. He is ably assisted by an assortment of unlikely friends he picks up during his escapades. I got so caught up in Justin and Elyssa escapades that I was walking around with my kindle trying to read the next lines. This is an excellent sequel to Sweet Blood of Mine and if anything has a faster pace in John Corwin´s particularly humorous writing style, which had me laughing out loud at times, and drew a few strange looks from others. Hated the ending (only because it was the end) and wished i´d never read the excerpt for the next book, what a cliff hanger. This book is certainly on my to be read again list.Kim

Harry Potter meet The Matrix! It's always a bad sign for me when it takes me a couple of days to finish a book. Unless I'm super busy or sick, it just doesn't happen. I also hate it when I'm torn about my feelings about a book once I finish it. Lets break it down...This picks up immediately after book one. What I enjoyed: The concept and story. Justin is a spawn. An incubus demon who is also part sorcerer and part human. His parents were both shunned from their families and they've been on the run. Poor Justin's powers were awakened without any guidance and he now finds himself in the midst of a supernatural war. I enjoy Justin and Elyssa's character. He is a kid who is slowly growing up and is unsure of what to do. He is the brawn and Elyssa is the brains. But it works and they make a good pair. Even their sappy love confessions were cute. We are once again joined by Stacey, a feline-were, and introduced to Ryland who I enjoyed very much. But I do love werewolves. I enjoyed the banter, vulnerability and spunk in each of these characters. There is so much potential for these two and I'm excited to see where Corwin takes their story. What I didn't enjoy: The first half of the book. I'm still unsure of what the purpose of the ever annoying Katie was at the beginning. Then we have Smith. Geek genius who... still unsure why he stuck around. Felicia who was just getting trashed on most of the time. I'm thinking that these will all come together and be instrumental in uniting all the different species together. That's a great plan, I'm just not sure it was necessary to give then so much time. The story finally picked up for me once all these characters moved into the shadows and it was just Justin and Elyssa. The world, while interesting and original with the way technology and magic are connected, it was too much for me. I'm not a computer nerd so all the Matrix-like stuff was boring. Again, original, too much. Plus the Grotto seemed like a scene in Harry Potter. I kept expecting them to go grab a butterbeer. In conclusion... I like the story. Will read book 3 but do so in the hopes that all these extra characters are either flushed out or developed further. I would've loved to see Justin learn more about his powers and abilities and grow stronger. I still want to see his parents redeem themselves since so far they have the "worst parents" award. Until book 3....

John Corwin has done it again. Action packed from the start and filled with ironic, satirical wit. The characters are many and varied including Nerdy Daemon Spawn, even nerdier Sorcerers, Felycans, and yes, even Vampires, but not like any you've seen before. The story is set in and around Atlanta and there is a mystical Grotto located below Phipps Plaza, a mall described by Corwin as being "for people with more money than sense". Living here in Atlanta, I know exactly what he means. :) The book is a fun romp through the world of "Supers" (Supernatural Creatures) that is filled with action and adventure and even a bit of romance for us "Noms" (Normals). I highly recommend this book, but only after reading Sweet Blood of Mine, the first book in the series. I'm waiting in anticipation for the third book in this series to see if Justin Case and his girlfriend Elyssa can make it through high-school alive.

Another excellent read from John Corwin! I didn't think it was possible, but I liked this book an eensy bit more than the first ( Sweet Blood of Mine ) :) Lots of action and suspense, plus a further look at the Overworld that I absolutely enjoyed. Justin has grown more 'into' his new self, and he has decided to take his fate by the horns and deal. It's an amazing thing to see. This is a ride you won't wanna miss! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down, it's definitely a page-turner. The humor that I've come to expect from this author was there in spades and had me LOL'ing numerous times. I am truly enjoying the world that John is building here, can't wait for the next book to see what Justin and Elyssa's next adventure will be!

Dark Light of Mine grabs you from start to finish. Corwin's vision of the Overworld is filled with vibrant characters and vivid details. This is a great follow-up to Sweet Blood of Mine. The action starts up pretty much from Page 1 and never stops. All our favorite characters are back with some wonderful new additions to the "Scooby Gang". The story picks up right where Book One ends. A chase scene occurs right away and Justin and his friends are still trying to save Justin's Dad(now from an Assassin known as Underborn) and locate the rest of his family. Justin & Elyssa are adorable together. The humor that is threaded throughout the story will have you LOL. My inner nerd thrives on references to Star Wars, Star Trek & The Lord of the Rings. Corwin even manages a shout out to Fifty Shades of Grey if the reader is paying attention. Corwin packs a lot of story into this second book and leaves the reader wanting more. I'm looking forward to seeing what mischief Justin gets into in the next installment. One of my favorite quotes:"It's very important we protect you, Justin. There are indicators you are a person of import. You may be the key to preventing a disaster from occurring.""You gotta be kidding me," Shelton said. "Who brought Nostradamus with them?"

If Sweet Blood of Mine was a sprint, Dark Light of Mine is a full marathon! Action at every turn as Justin and the crew continue on their quest. Although its far from devoid of humor, this enstallment has a much more "grown-up" feel to it. Justin Case is no longer the flabby, greasy-haired geek we met in the first of the series. Well, he is still the same Justin (meaning fairly geeky) but being thrust into a dark and twisted paranormal world tends to change a guy. Just a little. I am happy to tell you that Mr.Corwin has stayed true to Justin's character, not giving into the temptation to conform and make him some unflawed hero. True he has become stronger, both physically and mentally, but it is still new to him and he is not afraid to say as much.Elyssa continues to grow as well. We learn that the success of the mission is directly linked to Justin and Elyssa being together. Question is will they stop trying to protect the other and just work together? The support cast holds as many wild cards as it does winners! Ryland, Stacey and Shelton are a few of my favorites. Though some of them I question their motives. My hopes are we see more of Elyssa's family in book 3.

FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC...!!!Dark Light of mine is the second book in the Overworld Chronicles. The last book ended with a call from Justin's mom telling him to stay away from his father. This book starts with a chase from Hellhounds which was simply superb.. The books takes pace right from the first page and is maintained through out. There was action, there was romance, their was friendship and top of all there were some really funny moments that would keep a smile on your face till the end..The love between Elyssa and Justin was really touching. The other characters also stood out really well and there were some really good totally dumbfounding moments like revealing the Underborn, Justin's memories etc.. which would leave you wanting for more...and the end...well Why the Hell did the book end!!!! now I am left with so many question, I just can't wait for the next book to come and hope its soon.....Overall Dark Light of Mine was everything I expected and much more...

I absolutely love John Corwin's writing style. It is just hysterical. Had me laughing all the way through out.The story was better thought out in this book and executed a lot more smoothly too.Justin was as funny as ever; self loathing without being annoying but a lot more confident this go around. Elyssa is still a little stuck up for my liking but she redeems herself a little as she did pull the stick out of her ass just a wee bit.I adore Stacey, she just makes me laugh. I enjoyed all the new additions to Justin's crew in this book, they do make for an entertaining read. I am really looking forward to reading the next book, if not just for the laughs.

Being a hormonal teenager is hard enough. Being part incubus, part sorcerer and at the center of a centuries long plan to return the old masters to the world, thats brutal. The story is fast paced, the characters are well developed and not cookie cutter. I liked the way the story kept moving even when you desperately want a break. Looking forward to the remainder of the books.

Even better than the first oneSome may not like the "sappy" love story part of this series, but it happens to be one of my favorite parts. I like how the two main characters are such total opposites, but their skills compliment each other. They are truly better together. I also enjoy how the main character has to continually fight against his dark side. He wants to stay a "nice" guy, even if he is demon spawn. That's nothing I love more than a great series...and this is one. I'm really looking forward to the books ahead.
