I had been eagerly anticipating the release of this author's debut novel, and I have to say I wasn't in the slightest disappointed. The heroine in this story, Anna, is strong, independent and very well written, but with an air of vulnerability which really helps to connect with her emotionally. She clearly dotes on her teenage son and wants only the best out of a life that has been hard on her. But when sexy American chef, Tex, rolls up on the scene, her life is turned upside down in more ways than one.Tex is a refreshing contrast to Anna, being confident and knowing exactly what he wants - he is a great match for her. Not that either of them realise it. But throw in an ex husband and a flirtatious colleague who is dead set on ruining things, their journey was never going to be an easy one.Another thing I really liked about this book was the sub-plot that weaved into the main storyline, with Anna's brother and his wife. Their struggling marriage is portrayed well and creates a nice story in itself when it is finally resolved.Well drawn characters, good plot lines and fabulous writing - definitely an author to watch!

United State of Love is one of those reads that instantly sucks you into the story. Beginning on an interesting note, designed to pique a reader’s interest, the basis of the story is laid out pretty quickly with characters you want to know more about.Following Anna on an assault course of up and downs, you really feel for her and the struggles she goes through – we’ve all got that one person in our lives who is manipulative, but for Anna that person is her husband. Fortin weaves the story in and out of emotional minefields and allows the characters to face their inner demons before being able to see what it is they really want. This is a great little read with well thought out characters, solid plot and interesting backstory, all the ingredients for a tasty treat.Reviewed by Charlotte Foreman on behalf of BestChickLit.com.

A rollercoaster of love...Is it a dream having two men fighting for your affections? Well, the answer is that the reality is 'no', or maybe it depends upon who the two men are. When one of them is the dreamy Tex, a sexy American chef, but the other one is a manipulative 'ex', it leads to a roller-coaster of emotions. When Anna's ex appears on the scene you know the baddie has arrived...and using his own son to climb back into Anna's life is a calculated and dirty move. There were moments when I felt a bit sorry for him, but it was fleeting. Tex steals the show...he's Mr Dreamy - but when children are involved it makes life and love, even more complicated. A good pace, lots of emotional drama and a thoroughly enjoyable read!

ARC provided by the Publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. Wow what a story! It grabbed me by the throat and refused to let me put my Kindle down until I had finished it and even then I had to go back and re-read it (after a good night's sleep!).Set mainly in the historic and pretty little town of Arundel in West Sussex, the story centres on Anna, a single mum with a 16 year old son called Luke, who is doing the best she can, working three jobs to provide for him. Her not-quite ex-husband used to be a professional football player but when a car accident meant that he could no longer play he went off to the USA, with them. But now he's back and he seems to want Anna back in his life, or does he?Then there is Tex Garcia, an american chef who loves women but avoids commitment. Throw in his friends Jamie and Yvonne, her brother and sister-in-law and their large brood of young children, a rather creepy museum curator called Andy and a man-eating bitch who goes by the name of Christine. What follows is a very funny, sexy story which sees Anna having to make decisions regarding her not-so-ex husband and her feelings for Tex, as well as being there for her son and take his feelings into account.Sounds complicated? Well life is like that sometimes! A very well written story that I would highly recommend.

I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.3.5 stars if that were allowed on Goodreads.Anna comes with baggage - a teenage son, three jobs and an ex husband who's not quite got his head around the ex part. Tex is a love 'em and leave 'em American who hasn't really recovered from the death of his wife and hides behind shallow relationships, cutting and running when things get too serious. He sees Anna at first as the next in a long line of conquests but she is adamant she won't fall for his charms, particularly when she starts to work for him. This is a different type of love story in that we know Anna and Tex get together quite soon in the book. The story is about how their relationship develops and how they get over the obstacles in the path to true love. This is a gently paced story but with lots of story arches, showing a whole host of problems that cause the romance to hit rocky ground. This is the author's debut but she still clearly has her own style and voice, which can only grow with any further works from her.I really enjoyed the scenes set in Texas on Tex's ranch. In fact it would be great to see a sequel based around the ranch and it's inhabitants!

You can take the man out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the man! Tex is a wonderful American hero (imperfect, too - which makes him real) and I was rooting for him throughout the story. Anna's life really is quite complicated, with the other men in her life causing her havoc right until the very end.Enough twists, mistakes and misunderstandings to keep you wondering whether Tex and Anna will finally get their happy ending, and an enjoyable read.

I read United State of Love in two days, such was my enthusiasm for the story. I wanted to know what happened to the characters. One man in particular stayed with me, and it was not the one you may think. The characters are well drawn and Sue Fortin sets the scenes so well, I was easily transported to the world of USL.I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book.

Jane Hunt Writer First StepsUnited States of Love is a complex, sweet romance full of angst, humour and regret. A lovely story of second time around love for Anna and Tex who experience a rocky road trip to happiness laden with emotional baggage from their first loves.Anna's strength maintains a secure family life for her now teenage son Luke despite the weakness and ultimate betrayal of her ex husband Mark; juggling a variety of jobs she is rescued by a handsome stranger who makes her long for romance in her life.Tex is a sexy, successful chef about to launch a new restaurant in Anna's home town. After the death of his wife he shies away from commitment but Anna gets under his skin and makes him want more. Wonderfully supportive of Anna he still manages to hurt her.The plot has all the right ingredients romance, intrigue and insurmountable conflict when Mark returns to the UK to reclaim his estranged wife. Mark's character is so believable and so easy to hate. With every page turn the complexity of Anna's life scuppers her budding romance with Tex and makes you wonder if they will ever reach their happy ending.Great characters and an upbeat twisty plot a very enjoyable read.I received and ARC from Harper Collins UK HarperImpulse via NetGalley for an honest review.Sue Fortin

This was such an amazing story. I loved the characters and although i got a little frustrated with how long it too Anna to make up her mind on what she wanted it was still a pleasure to read the book.I recommend this as a great summer read. i devoured this book in a matter of days.
