the better man Reviews
I didn’t really know what to expect when I picked up “Best Man.” Admittedly, it did appeal directly to one of my largest personal kinks: friends who become lovers. Yet beyond the story itself came strong characterization, fantastic dialogue, and a wealth of emotion that powered its words from beginning to end.Lorelei finds herself stranded at the altar with nothing but a letter from her fiancé and a churchful of friends and family who already know the groom’s a no-show. The best man, and consequentially Lori’s best friend, Will, is the person to whom she turns in her moment of need. She doesn’t know Will has been in love with her since they met, and though he hated the thought of her marrying someone else, he was willing to stand aside for the sake of her happiness. Determined to turn her public humiliation into a night everyone will remember for other reasons, Lori takes the church to her reception where she proceeds to get stinking drunk, and therefore loses her inhibitions. There were several things I loved about “Best Man.” First of all, the history built between both Lori and her fiancé, Brian, and Lori and Will was incredibly strong. I felt Lori’s despair, admired her pluck, and then felt for her when she later turned to Will and demanded if she wasn’t desirable as a woman. Likewise, I found it easy to fall in love with Will, and swoon at the intensity of his love of Lori. I could also appreciate Lori’s dilemma: her hesitation at risking a friendship for a love affair that might not work, her reluctance to face her failings at home, and her desire for independence. This story had an amazing amount of heart. I can’t recommend it enough.
This was a quick read. Lori gets jilted at the alter by her stupid fiance, because he leaves her a note telling her he doesn't love her anymore and he's been seeing someone else for the past couple Weeks. She's devastated and doesn't want to deal with anything but finally emerges from her room and tells everyone to go to the reception. She then gets super drunk and her best friend and also the man who has loved her for years cuts her off and takes her to her room to rest. She then makes a decision that changes there friendship for ever. Will has loved Lori for years but because he believed she was in a happy relationship he's kept his feelings to himself, but now the situation has changed and he has a shot with the one woman he doesn't want to be without.I enjoyed this book it was pretty cute, but because there was no real conflict or hold your breath what's going to happen next moment I gave it a 3. Also it was a but cheesy for my taste. Like a lifetime movie cheesy, but cute and quick. Will is a very sexy sweet and attentive man. Definetly swoon worthy."NOT UNTIL YOU LOVE ME THE SAME WAY I LOVE YOU. THIS ISN'T ENOUGH FOR ME, LORI. I WANT IT ALL. IF IT MEANS I GET NOTHING THEN SO BE IT."-will"BUT I DO INTEND, LORELEI, TO MAKE YOU FALL HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH ME."-will"I'M MORE THAN HALF WAY THERE ALREADY, YOU KNOW."-lori"HALFWAY WILL DO. FOR NOW."-will
Best Man is a story about picking up the pieces when loves goes bad. Lorelei and Will are best friends. To Will, Lorelei is the woman of his dreams and he will do anything to see her happy. That includes standing by watching her marry another man. But once Lorelei is left hurt and confused, Will sees no reason to keep holding his feeling back.Lorelei is confused at first and can’t believe that Will has feelings for her. She’s still reeling from her fiancé’s betrayal and can’t think straight. Despite her reluctance, she realizes that she has feelings for him too, and decides to explore the possibilities.I enjoyed reading Best Man. At first I thought the story was going to be a scandalous affair where everyone is sleeping with everyone, but it turned out to be a nice romantic story. The characters were likable and the story was very easy to follow.
Reviewed for Confessions from RomaholicsWhen Lorelei realizes she is a jilted bride, she decides not to waste the reception and has a party anyway. Because it was that or hunting down and slugging Brian, her fiancé.I love Lori’s reactions after reading the letter the groom leaves her, informing her that he is bored with her and has found someone else … several weeks ago. Her reactions are real, honest and credible. Especially after we discover that Lori gave up her career to help his, the jerk!(full review)
Best Man by Ceri Hebert invokes many emotions instantly...anger at Brian for leaving his bride at the altar to be with another woman, despair and pain for the jilted bride, Lorelei Warren and anxiety for the best man, Will Draper. He's been in love with Lorelei for years, so it's fun to see how he reacts to this unexpected development. The whole story is romantic, sensual and touching with excellent pacing. The beautiful setting in New England matches the transformation of Lorelei's feelings as she explores what she wants and needs out of life. I strongly recommend this delightful romance from the skilled pen of Ceri Hebert.
Finally, Almost 5 stars but this year I have reserved 5 stars for only the best of the best! This book was really damn awesome and sweet. The only thing I did not like was Brian.. Asshole anyone. The MC was not one who you wanted to mope around and cry for you wanted to admire her ambition to change and to cope with the happenings. I liked the book and I loved Will he was sooo sweet! Read it if you want a sweet little book!
It was kind of a boring story but still very sweet. I'm so happy that Lori and Will had gotten their happily ever after and Brian had gotten what was coming to him. Good, short read.
