Say Hey!: A Song of Willie Mays Reviews
The story of Willie Mays, The Say Hey Kid, told through song and rhyme that tells of his career in baseball starting with him playing for the Birmingham Black Barons, the local Negro league, and his breaking into the National Baseball league, his famous "basket catch" and his home home hitting, and entry into the baseball hall of fame.
This biography uses a repeating scaffold and a writing in verse style to tell the story of Willie Mays. It would approachable for a second or third grade audience, but could be used higher than that. Very nicely done.
I've used this book several times with school groups, always very successfully.
