Jessie Oleson knows her desserts, and knows how to appeal to your sweet tooth, even if you didn't know you had one. She's got some over-the-top creations here, as well as simpler but no less mouthwatering recipes for things like S'moreos (yes, s'mores goodness in an Oreo cookie!) to tricked out cereal treats (extra colorful, chewy and memorable), cupcake-stuffed cupcakes, Elvis whoopie pies (yes, peanut butter buttercream and bacon between banana cookies). Even for someone with as big a sweet tooth as me, some of these are extremely over the top (Cadbury Creme Eggs Benedict), but that doesn't mean they aren't delightful to contemplate. There's cookie cake pie, doughnut pie, brownie pie, and while many of the photos or even titles look complex, the recipes aren't. Oleson's creativity in taking dessert to a whole new level of artistry and playfulness is evident in every recipe here, meaning there aren't just glazed cinnamon rolls, but glazed cinnamon rolls stuffed with chocolate chip cookie dough. The seasonal treats like homemade conversation heart cookies, mimosa brownies, Pop Rocks cookies and even homemade candy corn are fun at-home activities with kids. Throughout you'll also find her cupcake artwork in all its cuteness.

These recipes are off the hook. In a good way.

I feel guilty just contemplating baking anything in this book.

By "sugar-filled," I think this book actually meant "grostesquely sweet." There are very few original recipes here, just new ways of combining high-sugar prepared baked goods with other high-sugar ingredients. Reading these recipes actually grossed me out a little. Packing premade cookie dough into a frozen pie crust then topping it with frosting? Making a "doughnut upside down cake"? Look, I adore sweets. But these just sound over the top. These "recipes" may be good if you want a unique dish to give someone or take to a potluck--with their bright colors and intense sugar loads they'll certainly be the talk of the party. But I can't imagine anyone wanting to consume these things regularly. Although the artwork is charming and the enthusiasm is cute, I was ultimately disappointed with this book.

I was a First Reads winner with this book. I love baking and sweets in general, and my daughter is right along side me when I am baking. She was as excited as I was to get this in the mail. The pictures are nicely done, and the cartoons certainly add a fun attitude to it all. We made the St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Shake, and it was pretty good taste wise. However, what you needed to make it was mostly pre-made, store bought items. It wasn't a from scratch recipe. Most of the recipes I've seen before, nothing all that new. I will certainly keep this book on hand when I'm in the mood to make something super sweet. It's a cute little book.

I received this as a Goodreads giveaway. My daughter and I devoured this book as quickly as we will devour our first recipe from it. While we have not made anything from it yet, it is a truly delightful book just to read. The recipes all sound delicious and both the pictures and captions are fun. I think it would make either a great book for yourself or a great gift book. Now to figure out if we should start with Birthday Cake French Toast or the Rainbow Layer cake. Too many goodies to choose from.I hope the Jessie Oleson continues to write cookbooks, this one is wonderful.

Just paging through this book makes me crave a nice salty ham biscuit. However, if you are an insane person who wants to eat deep fried cupcakes on a stick or cupcake stuffed cupcakes or cadbury creme eggs benedict, this is the cookbook for you. I admire the author's dedication to completely over the top dessertery, clear readable recipes and cute illustrations. But, blurg.

Not what I was hoping. Maybe a third of the recipes are more like ideas than recipes (i.e. use an oreo instead of graham crackers for a s'more). The recipes look alright, but they didn't really appeal to me. I'd also have appreciated more photos.

I think I had a blood-sugar incident just reading this. But I love Jessie Oleson, and it has her charm!

I absolutely love the illustrations and the idea of this book, but these treats are truly sugar-filled and I just can't get down like that.

I personally don't care for cookbooks that 90% of the ingredients are pre-made, store-bought junk food. Sorry.

Definitely over the top--these recipes make Paula Deen look like a health guru. That being said, if I am looking for a special, over the top, crazy insane dessert, this is where I will return.

Some of the recipes in here are just plain disturbing in their sugary hyper-overload, but some are awesome - if you're not averse to food coloring.
